So I was in the gym yesterday, watching a bunch of muted tv's while I was finishing up a workout on the elliptical machine of my choice. As is custom, they had one tv on each of the major national networks, and one tv on CNN. As it happened, my machine was right in front of the CNN tv. I'm really wondering what is wrong with CNN these days. They're clearly not the news network they once were, and to be honest, they're not even a news network at all. Say what you want, but at least Fox News openly admits their biases (the whole "fair & balanced" thing does not mean that it's actually neutral, but rather that they see themselves as counteracting a huge liberal bias in the media).
It all started when Martha Stewart got out of prison. She was talking to reporters outside her home, and she told this story about how she really wanted a cappucino, and when she got home, her cappucino/espresso machine wasn't working. It was a funny bit, because she was making fun of her own persona, and just having a relaxed informal moment with the press. The CNN reporter, who we hear in the background starts screaming to his cameraman, and anyone else that would listen, "THERE'S NO CAPPUCINO! SHE'S OUT OF CAPPUCINO!!"
These days, the person I just don't know what to make of is, without question, Lou Dobbs. He used to be a sensible man, back in the day when he had his business analysis show. Now he basically just spews about immigration all the time, and has completely gone off his rocker (I know, I know, he must be a scientologist). Now, it was a bit tough to keep up with reading the captions (since the TV was muted), but every segment was titled something like "Amnesty for Sale," or "President advocates Amnesty." I watched the president's address the other night, and to be honest with you, I found it to be completely reasonable. Christ, even Ted Kennedy came out in support of Bush, and if that isn't the first sign of the apocalypse I don't know what is.
I'm curious to know which president Lou Dobbs was watching and/or referring to, because it certainly wasn't President Bush. I, for one, am sick and tired of these people that basically ejaculate all over the news cameras on their little pet issues. Recently, the town of Herndon, VA had an election. Immigration was a huge part of that election because one of the mayoral candidates suggested building a day-labourer centre where the labourers can congregate, get jobs, and perhaps more importantly, introduce a method of ensuring that these people are paid for the work they do (which is somewhat of a problem up here).
Well, Lou Dobbs came to town, and conducted his show from "the front line of the immigration war," and basically tanked this guy's candidacy. Frankly, I thought that was a reasonable suggestion as well, compounded by the fact that the 7-11 where they currently congregate is reaching critical labourer mass. Besides, I hate to point out the obvious, but Lou Dobbs doesn't live in Herndon. It's time for CNN to retire this old fuddy-duddy, as he's clearly just as dumb as he looks. So Lou, if you're reading this, sometimes it's better to keep your mouth shut and have everyone think you're stupid, than to open it, and remove all the doubt.

Try Jack Cafferty-- another CNN commentator. He actually suggested that landmines be installed along a fence with Mexico. The reaction was predictably HUGE with the nationalstic, xenophobic Lou Dobbs viewership.
