Well, it's been a long hard road, but I'm starting my final week of culinary coursework today. This week, I'm pulling together my group's work for our final project (making sure that all of our projections meet the budget, and if not, rejiggering everything until they do). This class has been very insightful in two ways. First, I've learned a lot about catering management, and how it's different from regular restaurant management. Second, I've reinforced the fact that I hate group projects.
After this week, I'll be heading to New York for a few days to unwind and visit with my family, and then Otis and I will be heading back down to Washington, DC, where I am scheduled to be working for a catering company for the next three months. With any luck, they'll make me an offer to bring me on as a full-time employee (I'm starting as an extern). I can't believe that I'm already at the end of my coursework. I knew that this was the accelerated programme (the normal degree programme is two years, and I did it in one, plus three months for the externship), but it is a surreal experience.
I've met a good number of friends out here, and we've come through a lot together. We've basically cut ourselves, burnt ourselves, made a lot of good food, got drunk together, and shared unique perspectives on the world. Now, it's coming to a close. It's a very distinctly odd feeling, yet on the other hand, I'm also excited for what's coming next. Seeing that my formal education is just about done, I'm going to start making this weblog a commentary on a number of things. There will be a distincy culinary bend to a lot of my observations, although I'll also throw in my commentary on world events and news, as everyone's entitled to my opinion. :-)
For those of you that I'm e-mail contact with, I'll have an e-mail coming out soon with my updated contact information. For the rest of you, I can still be found here, in my little corner of the Internet. My temple is always open. :-)

Ironically enough, it was in the 70's here for most of the time that it was snowing back east. I've discovered that I really do much better in a warmer climate. Maybe one of these days I'll wind up living in a place with no winter. That would be fine by me...
