Well, it's that time again. That time when Jewish people all over the world will ponder the essential question of our faith: Why are we alone faced with the burden of eating gefilte fish? Thus far, I've had the occasion to ponder some of the musings that come every year at this time.
For example, why is it that no matter where I am at Passover, there are always Jewish people using the Maxwell House Haggada? Why is it that the Maxwell House people put out that haggada in the first place? Why is it that I need to take out a home equity loan in order to afford the food for Passover, especially since it's so awful? What exactly is in a Joyva ring-gel?
Tonight I also partook (is that a word?) in an age-old practice which I have been responsible for every Passover. Specifically, I made my own brand of horseradish (under my strict rabbinical supervision, that is). This year, being in California, I used unpasteurised Apple Cider vinegar (those of you that have known me for a while know that I have constantly bemoaned the lack of unpasteurised cider for a while). This year, the horseradish is MUCH more powerful than usual. I wonder what will happen if I feed them to General Tso and Stir Fry (the two cats my housemate has - of course, these are my names for them, I won't bore you with their actual names)...

Ah...General Tso. We go way way way way back. Thank him for the chicken.

missed you at the seder this year. noticed a conspicuous absence of the haggadah being sung/read as sean connery. or being read as a worker at a 7-Eleven store. one thing you can be assured of however, is that some things don't change--we had the egg discussion again this year. Hagiga!
bang the serenity gong once for me.

Oy. How did I know that was going to happen. In fact, I even mentioned it to the people I went to seder with. "Right about now, my mother is probably asking my father what the blessing is on the egg, and my father is probably screaming at her." I think we should start making something up every year, or at least have her assign it to her students to research. :-)
